What will the weather be for the April 8 eclipse?

CLEVELAND (WJW) — In two weeks, Northeast Ohio will be a prime viewing destination in the path of totality.

The big question lingering on the minds of many: Will Mother Nature cooperate?

“It’s still a bit too early for a super detailed daily forecast for April 8 in northern Ohio,” said Meteorologist Scott Sabol. “

Everything you need to know about the Total Solar Eclipse in NE Ohio

Still, though, Sabol has been diving into the weather history books to help give us a better idea of what to expect on the big day.

First big question: Will it be warm or cold?

“The averages for the last 10 to 15 years is about 55 to 60 [degrees], so the temps aren’t usually all that bad,” said Sabol.

Next up: Will it be dry, wet or — dare we say — snowy?

“I mean, we had snow on April 8th in 2018. It was about that much, but we do see snow in April,” said Sabol.

Last but certainly not least: Will it be cloudy or clear?

“Eleven of the last fifteen years, we have had at least 50% to 60% cloud cover and a good 70% of those days, it was overcast,” he said.

If this was Vegas, Sabol said the odds would be stacked against us for sunny and 75.

“I’d put the historical odds with a clear day at 20% to 25%.”
