Vote now for Rockford Register Star Student of the Week, April 22-26

It's once again time to meet the finalists and start casting votes for the Rockford Register Star's Student of the Week.

This week's nominees includes a Model United Nations Team member with an affinity for graphic design and gaming, a student heavily involved in her school's theater program and an ROTC student achieving straight A's.

We publish a list of Student of the Week finalists every Monday at rrstar.com and every Tuesday in the Rockford Register Star. Readers can vote online as many times as they wish until 11 a.m. Thursday.

The winner of the online poll is announced at rrstar.com every Friday and in print Sunday in the Rockford Register Star.

Here are this week's finalists.

Tyler Bye, Keith

Tyler Bye, 18, is a senior at Keith Country Day School. Bye's nominator described him as self-driven, holistically intelligent, and possesses a passion and creative purpose in all that he undertakes. "Good enough" is never good enough for Bye as he gives 150% effort on every assignment, research paper, project, or extra-curricular. Some of accomplishments and activities include teaching himself how to create a computer game, Turbo Town Thrash, an endless runner type of game, which will be published May 3 on Google Play. He serves as a volunteer teacher's assistant in the Graphic Design II class. He is a member of Model United Nations Team and represented Greece in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization committee this year. He is lead builder and captain of the Robotics Team. He is a chess club and board game member and plans to major in game design and computer science next year in college.

Sharrina Riley, East

Sharrina Riley, 16, is a junior at East High School. She is involved in the theatre department productions and will be part of the school's musical production at the end of month. Her theater teacher said Riley is great to have around and always prepared at rehearsals. Her math teacher described her as respectful, personable and helpful.

Amailliah Smith, Auburn

Amailliah Smith

Amailliah Smith is one of the nicest, most helpful and thoughtful students at Auburn High School, her nominator said. She takes pride in everything about her academics, including never missing a day, achieving all "A's," helping her community through ROTC, and really just being a great person. Auburn Principal Ryan Nachreiner said, "Mark my words, she's going places. Hopefully, our president someday."
