Video shows arrest of double homicide suspect in Lansing
UPDATE: This story has been updated to include the 54-A District Court register outlining Whaley’s charges in the case.
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan State Police have released a new video showing the arrest of Dennis Whaley, 51, who is now charged with the murder of two people in Lansing on April 18.
The video shows an infrared video (showing heat signatures) taken by a state police helicopter flying over Crego Park in Lansing on April 21.
Whaley is accused of killing Jason McKenzie, 50 and Christine Cambric, 53. McKenzie and Cambric were found in a home in the 500 block of Woodrow Ave. April 18. The discovery prompted a large police response.
The video shows the helicopter pilot tracking Whaley in the park while commenting on who he is and what he was wanted for along with noting he might have a loaded gun.
At the end of the video, five officers in what appears to be tactical gear are seen approaching Whaley, some with rifles drawn. Whaley seems to throw his arms up toward the helicopter before putting his hands on his head and laying down on the ground to be taken into custody without incident.
Whaley, 54-A District Court records show, faces at least 6 felony charges including two counts of open murder and four firearms charging, including a prohibited person in possession of a firearm charge.
