BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — The 2024 Brooksville Blueberry Festival has been canceled, organizers announced Monday.

“Sadly, the 2024 Brooksville Blueberry Festival has been canceled. We certainly want to thank you for your support and participation,” a statement posted to the festival’s Facebook page read.

The festival said that due to the blueberry growing season, an alternate date for 2024 was not possible, but reassured that the festival will be held again in 2025.

“While you may hear many rumors, the simple truth is that the Festival relies on attendance to make its finances whole, with a competing Festival being organized within blocks of our location, it makes a risky undertaking even more risky,” organizer John Lee said.

The Brooksville Blueberry Festival is held in downtown Brooksville on the last weekend of April. Much like Plant City’s Florida Strawberry Festival, the draw to Brooksville’s fest is its blueberry cuisine and blueberry-themed goods.

“We are very sorry that the event will not be held and sincerely thank all who signed up to be a part of 2024 Brooksville Blueberry Festival,” the announcement read.

The festival will begin processing refunds this week, and all vendor fees and sponsorship money will be returned by the end of the month.
