The Canadian Food Inspection Agency just announced an active recall on veggie burgers. This is due to undeclared gluten in the product, which is an allergen.

The Kool Kitchen brand frozen veggie burgers were sold in the provinces of Nova Scotia and Ontario and displayed a UPC of 651539200944 on the packaging. The recall was announced after a consumer complaint reported an allergic reaction after eating this product.

Check your freezer for these veggie burgers, and if you have them on hand, dispose of the product immediately if you or someone in your household has a gluten intolerance. Those with a wheat allergy can experience mild to severe symptoms when consuming this product, including hives, itchiness, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and more. If you have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity and are experiencing symptoms after preparing or eating these veggie burgers, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

The CFIA is launching a food safety investigation which may lead to other related recalls. For more information regarding this recall, contact the CFIA toll-free at 1-800-442-2342.
