Urbana Police, Crime Stoppers investigating chainsaw theft

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department and Champaign County Crime Stoppers are asking for help in finding the people who stole 16 chainsaws from an Urbana business three weeks ago.

The theft happened on Feb. 29 at Dust & Son Auto Supplies — 1702 North Cunningham Avenue — in Urbana. Officials said two suspects broke the front door window of the business, went directly to the power tools section and grabbed the chainsaws. They loaded the stolen tools into a car and drove away to the north.

The suspects and their car were captured on store security cameras. One is described as a thin, light-skinned male wearing a green sweatsuit, with white tennis shoes and a black balaclava. The other is described as a Black male with dreadlocks. He was wearing a black jacket, white gloves, black sweatpants with white stripes, black and white tennis shoes and a black balaclava.

Their car appeared to be a white Honda Civic, with a production year of 2016 to 2019. There is a dent in the driver’s side door and a scuff mark ahead of the front driver’s side wheel.

Anyone who has information regarding the identifies of the suspects is asked to submit their knowledge to Champaign County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted to them by calling 217-373-8477, visiting their website or using the P3 Tips app.
