Urbana Middle School moves to e-learning amid staffing shortage

URBANA, Ill (WCIA) — Urbana Middle School announced it will log move to e-learning for Monday, April 1.

In a Sunday evening email, the school’s principal and district’s superintendent said because of “a significant number of last-minute staff absences and not enough substitutes or administrators district-wide to cover all classes and routines safely, Urbana Middle School will transition to E-learning for all students.”

There will be no in-person classes at Urbana Middle School on Monday, and they urge students to check Google Classroom for any assignments.

“This E-Learning time allows students to work ahead, finalize projects or in-progress assignments, or make up any missing assignments,” the email read.

The administrators are thanking parents and families for their flexibility and understanding during the pivot.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause; however, we currently cannot have students arrive at school tomorrow because we are unable to ensure we have an appropriate student-to-adult ratio to effectively ensure a safe learning environment for the entire school day,” the principal and superintendent said via email.

After school athletic activities and practices will continue, check with coaches for more details.
