“It’s unbelievable!”: Two Hampton Roads residents win $1 million

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Two Hampton Roads residents are now $1 million richer thanks to the Virginia Lottery.

On March 19, Delores Smith, from Suffolk, asked her husband to get a Mega Millions ticket from Joe’s Kwik Mart. While that ticket didn’t win her the $893 million jackpot, Smith was able to match the first five numbers to win $1 million.

“It’s unbelievable!” Smith told Lottery officials.

This was the only ticket in Virginia to match the first five numbers.

On April 10, former High School teacher and Chesapeake resident Billy Arnold discovered he won the top prize in the Bank a Million game while sitting in front of his computer.

“I’ve got all six numbers!” Arnold shouted.

Arnold told Lottery officials he purchased the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven on North Battlefield Boulevard. He plans on using the money on a new Harley Davidson motorcycle.

According to Virginia Lottery, Bank a Million is exclusively played in Virginia, and winners receive the prize amount after federal and state tax withholdings.
