Ultra Processed Food Disorder – How Junk Food Impacts Mental Health

A recent study published in Cell Metabolism, finds that those who regularly eat high-sugar, high-fat snacks showed higher activity in the brain that creates dopamine, the “feel good hormone”. The same way other addictive drugs like nicotine and alcohol impact our brain. In a separate study, a few days after a breakfast high in sugar and saturated fat, people were linked to having poor performance on learning and memory tests. Some experts are now calling this “ultra-processed food disorder”. Research has also pointed to diets high in ultra-processed foods and an increased risk of depression.
