U.S. Marshals find wanted fugitive in hotel ceiling

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The U.S. Marshals Service said a man wanted for felony escape charges from the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) was arrested on Thursday, March 21 at a hotel in Colorado Springs.

According to U.S. Marshals, Kristifer Dieter had a warrant for escape from the CDOC and was later found at a hotel near I-25 and South Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs on Thursday.

U.S. Marshals, along with law enforcement with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Fountain Police Department, and CDOC tried to make contact with Dieter in his hotel room on the fourth floor. U.S. Marshals said while law enforcement was making contact, Dieter broke a hole in the ceiling of his room and climbed up into the space.

According to U.S. Marshals, the space in the ceiling above the room is not separated like the rooms themselves, so anyone on the fourth floor of the hotel were sent to the lobby or a lower floor to avoid an incident.

Law enforcement made entry into Dieter’s room and using a camera, located him in the ceiling and he was later brought out of the ceiling and taken into custody.
