Tyrtle Beach fundraiser continues collections for 2024 season

BATH, N.Y. (WETM) — The Tyrtle Beach Youth Fund is back again in Steuben County, and with a little over a week left in the campaign, the community continues to raise money and protect youth programs in the county.

The fundraiser brings local businesses and other organizations in the area together by taking in donations for the fund so that it can reach a yearly goal and have a community leader, “go jump in the lake.”

Every year a prominent community figure is selected to take the plunge into Lake Salubria in Bath, with this year’s candidate being Braedyn Northrup, a teacher at Haverling High School and New York State Soccer Championship Coach.

The 2024 season is already off to a great start after a kickoff party on April 5, with more than $8100 in donations to help the youth in Central Steuben County, with donations being accepted up to the plunge into the lake on May 3.

Over the 32 years of doing the fundraiser, the community has come together to donate more than $800,000, with 100% of the proceeds each year going to 80 youth programs in the area.

Originally started as a joke in 1992 by WVIN Radio, the Tyrtle Beach Youth Fund has helped support non-profit grassroots community groups that have served children and youth up to age 18 for decades. Programs apply and report annually and must use the funds for program use only. Programs wishing to receive funds from this year’s event are asked to apply on the website by April 30.

If you would like to donate to the fundraiser and help support the youth in Steuben County you can find ways of donating on the Tyrtle Beach website.
