Two men charged in CT burglaries involving stolen ATM, attempted theft of ATM

Two people have been charged in connection with commercial burglaries in Wallingford that involved a stolen ATM and the attempted theft of an ATM in January.

Alex Sierra, 31, and Ethan Nieves, 22, both of New Britain, each face charges, according to the Wallingford Police Department.

Police said officers on Jan. 20 at 4:30 a.m. responded to the Valero gas station at 68 North Turnpike Road after receiving a burglary alarm. Police found that the front door of the business had been shattered and that an ATM was missing from inside.

According to police, another burglary was reported the same day shortly after 5 a.m. at the Alien Vape and Smoke Shop, located at 970 North Colony Road, where multiple individuals were unable to steal the ATM. Police said three suspects were seen leaving the area in a blue SUV.

The Wallingford Police Department Detective Division conducted the investigation and was able to obtain warrants for the arrest of Sierra and Nieves. Detectives were assisted by police in East Haven, Milford, New Britain, Southington and Manchester.

According to police, Sierra was taken into custody on Monday. He is being held on a $75,000 bond, court records show.

Police said Nieves was arrested on April 14. He is free from custody, records show.

They each face charges of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit second-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Both of their cases remain pending in Meriden Superior Court.
