Two lanes on Highway 74 closed in Monroe after contractor causes water main break

MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two lanes on Highway 74 westbound from Campus Park Drive to S. Sutherland Avenue are closed until Thursday due to an emergency water main repair, according to Monroe officials.

Around noon, a contractor installing fiber near 791 E. Roosevelt Blvd hit and damaged a 12-inch water main. The break is in front of the Food Lion and Truist Bank across from Atrium Health Union.

Officials initially said the repairs would take 10-12 hours to complete and then adjusted the estimation until Thursday to all for roadway restoration. Nearby businesses may see a change in water pressure/flow while repairs are underway.
