Two children injured during Horseheads crash on Saturday afternoon

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) — Two children who were standing in an ice cream shop parking lot were injured after a three-vehicle crash in the Town of Horseheads on Saturday afternoon.

According to the New York State Police, a 2012 Toyota Highlander hit a 2010 BMW at the intersection of Wygant Road and Ridge Road at about 2:53 p.m. on April 20. The Highlander then drove through the intersection and hit a 2010 Toyota Rav4 that was parked in the Last Stand’s parking lot, causing an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old to be pinned against the building.

The 11-year-old was airlifted to Upstate Community Hospital in Syracuse, and the 13-year-old was taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre by ambulance. Both of the children are in stable condition.

Both of the drivers were uninjured during the crash, and the driver of the Highlander was issued traffic tickets at the scene.

The New York State Police Department, the Horseheads Fire Department, the Town and Country Fire Department, and Guthrie Air responded to the scene.

The New York State Police Department is currently investigating the cause of this crash.
