TTUHSC celebrates 115 graduates at commencement ceremony

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Texas Tech Health El Paso will celebrate 115 graduates with Doctor of Medicine degrees at the Foster School of Medicine’s 12th commencement ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 24 at the Plaza Theatre, 125 W. Mills Ave.

The Foster School of Medicine was established to improve health care in the Borderland community by helping to grow the number of physicians in our historically medically underserved region, according to a press release sent by TTUHSC.

TTUHSC said students from this year’s graduating class have matched to residency programs across the country, including El Paso – with nine matching at Texas Tech Health El Paso. This graduating class also includes 17 El Pasoans.

“Before the opening of the Foster School of Medicine, the number of physicians per 100,000 people in El Paso was 75 percent less than the national average,” read the press release. “Since 2009, El Paso County has grown its number of physicians from 1,034 to 1,715, a 66 percent increase and a direct result of having a four-year medical school and residency programs in the area.”

Additionally, the ceremony will be livestreamed at facebook.com/ttuhscep.
