CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Larry Millete, a Chula Vista man who’s accused of killing his wife, was back in court Tuesday with a new lawyer.

The recent hearing came after several months-long delays. At last, a judge scheduled a trial date for Jan. 5, 2025, which is nearly four years to the day since his wife, Maya, went missing. The mother of three was last seen near her home in the 2400 block of Paseo Los Gatos in Chula Vista.

Detectives reported that surveillance footage captured Maya parking her Jeep Rubicon on the street in front of her home at 4:42 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2021. No footage was ever found of her leaving the residence, according to police.

Millete told FOX 5 he initially thought she left to have some alone time. Later, detectives learned the couple had an argument on the evening she went missing, according to the affidavit.

Maya’s last known communication came at 8:15 p.m. when she shared an ad for a toy hauler with family through Facebook Messenger. Her phone activity stopped about 1:25 a.m. the following day, the affidavit shows.

A full timeline of Maya’s disappearance and the court process since can be found here.

Millete was first arrested in October 2021 in connection to his wife’s disappearance. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and will be back in court in in August 2024 for a status conference.
