Travel Advisory: I-25 closures planned for week of May 19

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has issued a travel advisory to let people know that several lane closures are planned on I-25 starting Sunday, May 19. These closures are part of two projects, one to increase the safety and efficiency of Interstate 25, and another project to widen South Academy Boulevard.

Interstate-25 Safety and Efficiency Improvements

The section of southbound I-25 between Mesa Ridge Parkway and mile 133 will be closed for part of the evening on May 19, starting at 9 p.m. and going through 6 a.m. Monday, May 20. The road will close again between milepost 129 near Crest Drive and 131 near Office Circle on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m., and that closure will continue through the night until 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 21.

There is also a contingency closure scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 22. That closure, if it happens, will occur between MP 129 and 131 on southbound I-25.

Additionally, there will be a northbound 1-25 left lane closure on Monday, May 20 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews pave the shoulder at MP 132.

South Academy Boulevard Widening Project

Bradley Road under the South Academy bridge will be down to one lane of alternating traffic on Monday, May 20 through Thursday, May 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should expect mild delays.

A minor lane shift is currently in place on the southbound South Academy Boulevard off-ramp to US 85/87 as crews work on drainage pipes in that area, and that shift will be in effect through May 23. In addition, there will be a temporary on-ramp set up for drivers entering northbound South Academy Blvd as crews work on roadway, drainage, and utilities in the area. Speeds there will be reduced to 30 mph and that closure will be in effect until the Fall.
