Transferring to Fresno State could become easier in Fall 2025: here is why
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Transferring to Fresno State from a California community college could become easier after the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees approved a singular general education (GE) pattern for all CSU undergraduates.
CSU officials say this change, voted on in March, will create a clear and consistent set of requirements for all future CSU students pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Fresno City College to improve transfer program with Fresno State
The updated CSU GE aligns with the units and learning areas of the new Cal-GETC (California General Education Transfer Curriculum). According to officials, the update to CSU GE removes five units from the GE pattern by including a one-unit laboratory for Biological or Physical Sciences, not including one of three Arts or Humanities courses in Area C and not including Area E, Lifelong Learning and Self-Development.

CSU officials say this could create a simplified pathway to a four-year degree. The new CSU GE mirrors the five-fewer unit requirements of Cal-GETC, but neither CSU GE nor Cal-GETC affects the total 120 units required to earn a CSU bachelor’s degree.
The new Cal-GETC will be implemented in Fall 2025, meaning that Fresno City College students who would like to transfer to Fresno State would only have to follow the new Cal-GETC instead of the CSU GE 2024 curriculum. To learn more about transfer requirements to Fresno State, click here.
