Train derailment shuts down Steel Bridge Monday morning
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Steel Bridge is closed Monday morning after a train derailment on the east end of the bridge, authorities said.
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews responded to the reported derailment at approximately 6:14 a.m., where they found two train cars fully derailed — one leaning against the bridge’s structural support column.
Union Pacific told KOIN 6 News that approximately five cars were involved in the derailment. The two fully derailed cars were empty lumber cars and officials said they are working to determine the contents of the other cars.
The bridge is completely shut down to all train, vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
According to TriMet, all MAX lines are disrupted due to the closure and they recommend taking regular bus lines.
