Which three Austin hospitals made Fortune magazine's national Top 100 list?

St. David's Medical Center, St. David's South Austin Medical Center and St. David's North Austin Medical Center have made the national Top 100 Hospitals list from Fortune magazine and health care tech company PINC AI.

St. David's Medical Center, which includes the Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David's Georgetown Hospital, also was recognized as the No. 1 large community hospital for the third year. St. David's Medical Center and St. David's South Austin also made the list of the 26 most improved hospitals.

The list compared 2,601 hospitals that are not federally owned or specialty hospitals and that have at least 25 acute care beds.

The lists are based on performance metrics such as clinical outcomes (avoiding death, infections and complications); 30-day and 90-day post-hospitalization readmission rates and deaths; operational efficiency; and patient experience. The data came from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services records from 2021 and 2022.

“We are honored to receive these accolades once again, as they underscore our commitment to excellence year after year," said David Huffstutler, president and chief executive officer of St. David's HealthCare. It's the 15th year a St. David's hospital has made the list.

St. David's HealthCare is one of three main hospital systems in the Austin area. Ascension Texas and Baylor Scott & White hospitals did not make the list.
