THP: Driver charged with DUI after tree impales car

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The driver of a vehicle that was impaled by a tree on April 20 has been charged with DUI and child endangerment.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported that a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound in the Houston Valley Road/Tarlton Circle area of State Route 107 just after 4 p.m.

The vehicle reportedly went off the right side of the road into a ditch line, continuing westbound. The vehicle then hit a downed tree.

The tree reportedly entered through the windshield of the passenger side. The vehicle spun clockwise and came to a rest partially in the roadway, THP stated.

The driver, identified by THP as Christopher K. Moir Jr., 31, was injured in the crash. A 7-year-old passenger was reportedly uninjured in the crash.

According to THP, Moir Jr. was charged with the following:

  • DUI

  • Child endangerment

  • Possession of a handgun while intoxicated

  • Implied consent

  • Due care

  • Failure to maintain lane

Moir Jr. was later taken to the Washington County Detention Center.
