‘We thought he was shot’: Former Abilene Zoo representative & family caught in San Antonio road rage shooting

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Former Abilene Zoo representative, Clay Carbajal, and his family were put in a frightening situation Wednesday in San Antonio when a road rage incident turned violent.

While traveling home after a good day of visiting friends, another vehicle pulled up behind the Carbajal family on I-35, riding a little too close for Carbajal’s comfort.

Nonetheless, Carbajal said he let the other driver pass him as soon as it was safe to do so. But the other driver seemed to be in a not so family friendly state of mind.

Instead, the other driver allegedly pulled up beside the Carbajal vehicle and fired four shots from a firearm at their vehicle.

“We’ve got three kids in the back, and my 6-year-old was asleep in the back seat. Of course we thought he was shot ’cause he was unresponsive, but he was asleep. Turns out, one of the bullets did penetrate the cab of our vehicle and graze my 10-year-old who was sitting behind me,” Carbajal told KTAB/KRBC.

Although Carbajal’s son was not seriously injured, he said the moments following that shooting were among the most tense he’s ever felt.

Police has not found the suspect in the road rage shooting, but Carbajal described him as a heavyset balding Hispanic man between the ages of 40 and 60 with a light beard. He was driving a dark colored sedan.
