Teen charged with Edwardsville apartment shooting

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A teen has been charged as an adult for a shooting in Edwardsville that nearly struck a woman and multiple children, police stated.

According to the Edwardsville Police Department, 17-year-old Jovan Goodwin of Hanover Township was charged with a shooting at the Hilltop Apartments complex on January 24.

Police say surveillance video showed Goodwin arriving at the complex with two men in his car. Goodwin was then seen extending his arm with a gun in his hand and firing a shot aimed at one of the men in his car, officers said.

As stated in the affidavit, the gunshot passed over the man, went through a wall of an apartment, and hit a couch where a woman and her child were sitting. Police noted that there were other children in the parking lot when Goodwin allegedly fired the shot.

Goodwin has been charged with the following;

  • Reckless endangerment

  • Aggravated assault

  • Firearms not to be carried without a license

  • Possession of a firearm

  • Discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure

  • Criminal attempt to commit simple assault

  • Disorderly conduct

  • Harassment

Goodwin is currently being charged as an adult for the incident. He remains in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a bail set at $100,000.
