ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis jury has awarded $750,000 to Beverly Buck Brennan, the daughter of the late St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster, Jack Buck. Brennan, a former theater and speech instructor at Harris-Stowe, brought forth allegations of racial and gender discrimination.

According to a report from the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Brennan’s legal team argued that her curriculum at Harris-Stowe faced scrutiny following the appointment of a new dean to the School of Arts and Sciences. Brennan asserted that her projects were consistently denied approval, her budget was slashed, and female teachers were subjected to unfair treatment.

In 2017, Brennan retired from her position, citing the hostile work environment. Despite the challenges she faced, Brennan has decided to donate the entirety of her award to the Harris-Stowe Theater Department, demonstrating her commitment to fostering a positive educational environment.

While Brennan has spoken out about her experiences, the university has chosen not to respond to requests for comment at this time.
