Suspects flee after weekend shooting in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Police are investigating after a shooting situation in Akron Saturday evening.

According to a press release from the Akron Police Department, officers responded to the area of Copley Road, Nome Avenue and surrounding streets after multiple calls reported hearing gunshots in the area around 5:30 p.m.

According to the release, it was reported that three men were seen shooting guns in the area, possibly at other people.

An officer at the scene spotted and chased one of the suspects after he fled on foot, but eventually lost sight of him on the 800 block of Cordova Avenue.

At the scene, officers found a discarded firearm, a duffle bag with over 800 grams of marijuana that was individually packaged for sale, cash and some clothing.

“Based on the information developed, it appears that there was an exchange of gunfire between two groups of unknown suspects,” the release said

According to the release, at least one house and a parked car were struck by bullets. No injuries have been reported.
