Suspect in fatal hit-run near Corvallis charged with homicide

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Days after a suspected fatal hit-and-run took place on Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis, authorities with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest on Friday.

Brenda Lopez, 24, was charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, aggravated driving while suspended, third-degree assault and failure to perform duties of a driver to an injured person.

Benton County deputies say that a farmer reported finding the body of Albany woman Deborah Rosemary Haikkila on Wednesday.

“BCSO would like to thank the community for their support and tips generated during this investigation and continues to seek information from witnesses for this incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
