Suspect in double homicide charged in deaths

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane has charged Dennis Whaley, 51, with two counts of open murder and firearms charges.

Whaley is accused of killing Jason McKenzie, 50 and Christine Cambric, 53. McKenzie and Cambric were found in a home in the 500 block of Woodrow Ave. April 18. The discovery prompted a large police response.

Whaley was detained Monday. He was arraigned 54-A District Court on two counts of open murder and firearms charges, Dewane’s office reported in a news release. He’s being held in the Ingham County Jail without bond.

His next appearance will be May 2, 2024 for a probable cause conference and a preliminary exam will be held May 9, 2024 in front of 54-A District Court Judge Cynthia Ward.
