Supervisor arrested for unwanted contact denies accusation

UPDATE: Late Tuesday afternoon, the Sterling Police Department issued a news release
announcing the arrest of Asian Buffet Restaurant owner Mike Wei for aggravated battery.

Wei is represented by the law firm of Mertes & Mertes, P.C., Sterling, in this matter, according to a news release. Attorney James Mertes issued a statement on Wei’s behalf.

“Mike absolutely denies this accusation,” Mertes said. “He is presumed innocent,” Mertes added.
“Mike takes this accusation very seriously, and he intends to vigorously defend himself in a court of law. Mike has an abiding faith in our justice system,” Mertes said. “He looks forward to
having his name cleared,” Mertes added.

EARLIER: A Sterling man has been arrested for aggravated battery after he allegedly touched a woman he was supervising in an unwanted way, according to a news release from the Sterling Police Department.

The department received a report on March 20 from a 23-year-old woman who recounted unwanted and provoking physical contact by her supervisor while at work. After an investigation, officers arrested Shao W. Wei, 55, of Sterling, for aggravated battery, a class 3 felony, the release said.

Wei was taken to the Sterling Police Department and released with a notice to appear.
