TAMPA, Fla (WFLA) — Tampa Pride will host its annual parade in Ybor City this weekend.

The event will start at 4 p.m. on East 7th Avenue, with thousands of people expected to attend.

“Elated, exited, super excited,” said Carrie West, President of Tampa Pride.

West said it will be the second year in a row that drag performances will be out of public view. It’s a decision West made following Gov. Ron DeSantis signing the Protection of Children Act last year.

The law brought serious consequences to those who allowed children into live adult performances that showed lewd or sexual conduct. It prompted West and organizers to move drag shows off the street and to cancel last year’s Pride on the River.

“We had to visually have an area, which we held at the Cuban Club. They closed an area, and we had it, and it was 18 and up,” West said.

The U.S Supreme Court blocked Florida from enforcing the law last year. Nevertheless, West says they will keep drag shows off the street.
