Sulphur couple arrested, accused of cruelty to 4-year-old boy
SULPHUR, La. (KLFY) — Two people in Calcasieu Parish have been charged with abusing a 4-year-old boy, authorities said.
Scott A. Edwards, 26, the boy’s father, and his live-in girlfriend, Jenna E. Morgan, 24, both of Sulphur, are both charged with second degree cruelty to a juvenile, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Calcasieu Parish deputies were dispatched at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday to a home on N. Claiborne Street in Sulphur in reference to an unresponsive 4-year-old boy.
When detectives spoke with Edwards, the father of the child, and Morgan, his live-in girlfriend, they gave conflicting stories on how the injuries may have occurred, none of which were consistent with the extent of the injuries the boy sustained, authorities said.
The boy was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to a hospital out of town due to the severity of his injuries. The child remains in ICU in critical condition, and has been placed in state custody by the Department of Children and Family Services, officials said.
