Strong, severe storms likely this evening; Hail, damaging winds, tornadoes possible

May 7—Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected through Thursday, with severe weather possible.

Today will be warm and cloudy with a high near 80 degrees. Showers in the forecast, with possibly a thunderstorm, before 3 p.m., then a chance of showers and storms after 3 p.m. There's a chance for isolated strong to severe storms from noon to 4 p.m. However, from 4 to 11 p.m. is the primary risk for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The main threats are large hail and damaging winds, but a few tornadoes will be possible, especially along and north of Interstate 70, according to the NWS.

The rain and storm chances are expected to continue until around midnight, before trailing off. Clouds also will gradually decrease as temperatures dip to a low around 62 degrees.

Wednesday will be partly sunny and then gradually becoming sunny with a high near 83 degrees.

Showers return Wednesday night, with possibly a thunderstorm. The overnight low will be around 64 degrees.

Thursday will be rainy, with a thunderstorm possible before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and storms after 8 a.m. The high will be near 74 degrees and it will be breezy with a west wind of 10 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.

There is a slight chance of showers and storms Thursday night before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers through 2 a.m. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy and breezy with an overnight low around 50 degrees.

Friday will be mostly sunny but cooler with a high near 63 degrees. Friday night will be partly cloudy with an overnight low around 46 degrees.

Showers are likely for at least the first part of the weekend.
