Former Strictly Come Dancing star Joe Sugg has teased his new television project, saying it is something that “fans will enjoy”.

The Sun reported earlier this month that the star was preparing to front a reality television show, and he has now confirmed that work is underway, via his Instagram account.

“It’s been a busy ol’ week for me this week hence why I don’t think I’ve posted a single thing on stories for a while,” he began. “BUT it’s for a good reason, we’ve been shooting a pilot for a new dating show.

“It’s a version of an idea we’ve been developing for a long time and after several knock backs here and there we weathered the difficult storm of tv world right now and refused to let the idea be shelved.

“We were given a chance and I really think we’ve made something you’re all going to enjoy. I’ll post lots more teasers and updates about it over on @finalstrawprods.”

The show is said to focus on a group of singletons as they discover the “good and bad” bits of their prospective partners, with Joe acting as a mediator between the couples.

Joe appeared on the 16th series of Strictly in 2018, eventually reaching the final with Dianne Buswell. The couple started dating after the series, with Dianne recently speaking about their future plans.

“I think definitely for sure at one point we'll have children,” she said. “It's something we'd both love, but we don't know when just yet. We always say our kids are going to watch YouTube videos of us dancing one day, and that's so cool!

“Joe and I will often sit there, thinking it's crazy that it's been five years since we've been together, we're still amazed it all came from Strictly. We do wonder whether we'd have actually met if he hadn't been on the show, I wouldn't have got to know him!

“We still love to dance together. Joe loves ballroom and he's always trying to do it with me in the kitchen. We're going to have Argentine Tango lessons together soon!”

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Tickets for Strictly's 2024 live arena tour are available now.
