State police: Two arrested in highway shooting

PROVIDENCE - The Rhode Island State Police say they've arrested two men who shot another man in a "targeted attack" on Interstate 95 last year.

The "suspects fired numerous rounds into the victim's vehicle," hitting him once in the stomach, the police said. The victim suffered "life threatening injuries" but survived, according to the police.

The shooting happened on Oct. 21 near Exit 38 in Providence.

Investigating the shooting, detectives executed 27 search warrants, the state police said.

Both men were charged with assault with the intent to commit murder, using a firearm when committing a crime of violence (resulting in injury), drive-by shooting, conspiracy and firearms charges.

They also face drug charges. During the search warrant at one of the suspect's residences, the police say detectives seized suspected crack cocaine, money and narcotics paraphernalia. During the search at the other suspect's residence, detectives seized suspected ecstasy (MDMA).

Both men are being held.
