Starr brothers ordered to pay over a million in restitution

COFFEE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — A federal judge has brought down an order forcing the infamous Starr brothers to pay a hefty sum in restitution.

Jason and his brother Darin Starr were found guilty of racketeering murder in the death of Jason’s wife, Sara Starr. The brothers were sentenced to life in prison, and Judge Austin Huffaker initially ordered Jason to pay a fine of $25,000.

On Wednesday, the U.S. DOJ announced a federal judge ordered the brothers to pay an additional $1,069,242 in restitution.

During the September 2023 trial, prosecutors told the jury, comprised of 11 women and one man, that Jason hired his brother to kill Sara, paying him $3,000 and a motorcycle to carry out the plot. Sara was shot to death in her driveway as she was leaving for work not long after Thanksgiving in 2017.
