Stanislaus County leader will take ‘State of the County’ speech outdoors. Here’s when & why

Stanislaus County’s top elected official has chosen an outdoor spot for the annual State of the County speech that he hopes will be welcoming for residents.

Mani Grewal, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, will deliver the speech at 5:30 p.m. Thursday from the steps of Modesto Library, at 1500 I St. The address usually is held in the board’s regular meeting chambers on the bottom floor of Tenth Street Place, but Grewal said he hopes the the less formal location will “offer an open atmosphere to all of our county’s residents without reservation.”

The annual address often gives a status report on county government matters, along with goals and priorities for that year. Grewal said his speech will celebrate the county’s past, present and future.

The county will hold a resource fair Thursday afternoon outside the library from 1 to 5 p.m. County departments will set up resource tables to highlight public services the county offers.

Residents attending the resource fair can ask questions or seek assistance from departments. An afternoon high temperature of 72 degrees is forecast for Thursday.
