Calling all volunteers: St. Johns River Cleanup coming Saturday

Volunteers will have several sites to choose from for the start of the 28th annual St. Johns River Cleanup from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday in Volusia County.

"Planners hope to clean 59 miles of the waterway and river basin with the help of boaters and other volunteers. Scout troops, schools, and social groups are encouraged to participate, making it a community-wide effort that welcomes individuals of all ages," according to the Volusia County government.

The county is asking people to bring water and work gloves and wear appropriate clothing, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. People can also bring tools such as rakes, shovels and trash grabbers.

"You may also bring boats if your site has a boat ramp or canoes," according to the county.

People can register on Eventbrite for each site where they plan to volunteer, or people can just show up and volunteer.
