Springfield doctor accused of sexual assault and sexual contact with an SPS student
A longtime Springfield medical professional has been charged with second-degree sexual assault and sexual contact with a student.
Dr. Louis Krenn, who works in family medicine at CoxHealth, was booked into Greene County Jail on Tuesday evening. His bond has been set at $50,000.
Court documents note that the 48-year-old man's alleged sexual contact was with an underage teenage girl while he was volunteering in a Springfield Public Schools-related program.
The female victim, according to a police report, also allegedly told investigators that Krenn had an "obsession" with her, would offer her money for bikini photos, and spoke to her about the sex lives of his patients.
CoxHealth said it knows about Krenn's arrest.
"We are aware that a CoxHealth physician was detained by law enforcement on Tuesday, April 23, for a matter unrelated to work," CoxHealth spokesman Randy Berger said in a statement. "CoxHealth takes these situations very seriously. It is CoxHealth’s practice to place employees on leave when we are notified of investigations by law enforcement. As an organization, we prioritize safety and respect in all that we do."
The specific charges Krenn faces are sexual contact with a student, which is a Class E felony, and second degree sexual abuse, which is a misdemeanor.
A note in one court filing indicated that the court should require Krenn to self-report to the Missouri Board of Healing Arts.
"The defendant poses a significant risk to the victim and to the community as a whole," a Greene County detective wrote in a probable statement, "as he we would have access to minors as part of his employment, as well as any location in the community where minors are present."
