SPECIAL ELECTION: Sean Knox and Carmen Rice heading into runoff for House District Seat 139

Reminder: These are unofficial results.

The results are in and two candidates, Sean Knox, a Columbus businessman, and Carmen Rice, the Muscogee County Republican Party chair are heading into a runoff election on May 7.

Tuesday was election day in some parts of Muscogee and Harris Counties, and voters went to the polls for a special election for the Georgia House 139 seat.

Three Republicans, Knox, Rice, and retired oral surgeon Donald Moeller along with an Independent, real estate broker Robert appeared on the ballot for the special election to replace the seat caused by Rep. Richard Smith’s passing. Knox and Rice will face off on May 8th to fill the seat of Richard Smith.

Despite the outcome of the special election, all three Republican candidates will appear on the May Primary ballot. Meanwhile, Mallard and a Democratic challenger, Carl Sprayberry, will be on the ballot in November. The winner would of the November race would serve a two year term starting in 2025.
