Southeast New Mexico College selects new VP of Academic Affairs

Southeast New Mexico College announced last week that it had selected Dr. Effrosyni Seitaridou as its new vice president of academic affairs.

Seitaridou will take up the role on July 1, 2024; she is currently a professor of physics at Oxford College of Emory University.

“I am delighted to join the students, faculty, staff, and administration at SENMC," Seitaridou said in a new release. "I have been impressed by everyone’s thoughtfulness and dedication in addressing the needs of the students and the surrounding communities, and I am excited to contribute to the amazing work being done here.”

Seitaridou's resume includes a bachelor's degree in physics from Smith College and a bachelor's degree in material science from Dartmouth College in 2002. She attended California Institute of Technology for her graduate studies and received a master's degree in 2004 and Ph.D. in 2008; both degrees are in applied physics.

Seitaridou was one of five candidates being considered the position. Among them were Dr. Kent Bucanan, Dr. Mickey Best, Dr. Julio Birman and Dr. Michael Pulling. Candidates visited the campus between April 9 and April 16, participating in public forums.

“We were so pleased with the exceptional candidates competing for the position. Dr. Seitaridou will be coming to us with over 15 years of award-winning teaching experience in the first and second undergraduate years, as well as a background in departmental leadership, curriculum, and the opening of a new facility," said Kevin Beardmore, president of SENMC. "Not only is she uniquely qualified to accept the challenge of serving as our chief academic officer, her genuine concern for the success of students came shining through in her meetings with the campus community."
