Sleeping man carjacked, wounded in SE Portland; suspect at large

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man suffered facial injuries in a carjacking in Southeast Portland early Saturday morning and the suspect remains on the run.

The carjacking happened around 4:30 a.m. and officers went to the scene near Southeast 42nd and Woodstock Boulevard after a report about shots being fired.

On arrival, they found a man who said he was sleeping in the car when the carjacker approached and fired a shot through the car’s window, then stole the car, officials said. The glass shards had also cut the man’s face.

Authorities added the man didn’t own the car he was sleeping in.

A man, who identifies himself as Robot, told KOIN 6 News he knows the victim. He was also in the nearby Plaid Pantry returning cans when the victim came into the store after the carjacking.

“He was just really worried that he had wounds and he was bleeding a lot in the face and all over,” he recalled. “He’s a really good guy and I didn’t like seeing that happen to him, because he didn’t deserve it at all. He was just resting.”

According to PPB, no immediate arrests were made and the case is still under investigation.

No further information has been released at this time.
