Skeletal remains found in Lumberton headed to NC medical examiner for probe
LUMBERTON, N.C. (WBTW) — Skeletal remains discovered Friday at an abandoned Lumberton water plant will be examined at the North Carolina state medical examiner’s office, authorities said.
The Lumberton Police Department and Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 600 Water Street in the city about 4 p.m. after someone reported the remains, which may have included human bones.
Officials said they were found submerged in a flooded pit beneath the plant. The Fayetteville Police Department’s dive team was called in to help recover the remains.
No further information was immediately available.
