Silver Screen Filmmakers project debuts Saturday

The Miller Beach Arts & Creative District is hosting the First Annual Silver Screen Filmmakers Club Spring Showcase from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, 540 S. Lake St. in Gary.

The Silver Screen Filmmakers Club is taught by local writer/filmmaker Jessica Renslow as part of the Indiana Arts Commission’s Lifelong Arts initiative.

Renslow said members met for six consecutive Saturday workshops to learn the basics of filmmaking for the free showing. They shot their films on their phones and learned to edit them on an online platform.

There are nine short films ranging from 1-7 minutes, premiering on Saturday.

Lifelong Arts Indiana is a partnership between the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration Division of Aging and the Indiana Arts Commission.

The program equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide creative experiences for older adults, ages 65 and over, and provides access to the funds. Renslow is one of 35 members of the Lifelong Arts program.

“I’m so proud of the creativity and tenacity the Silver Screeners have shown this spring. They’ve learned a ton of new skills and had to work together as production teams. Each of their films are completely different,” said Renslow.
