Alex Minnic, a senior at Silver Creek High School, is the Courier Journal Student of the Week.

Alex is a wonderful and accomplished student at Silver Creek High School. He is graduating summa cum laude this spring. He also earned his associate degree while in high school and is also graduating summa cum laude at Ivy Tech.

Alex is globally certified as bilingual in Spanish and English. He has volunteered throughout high school and is an Eagle Scout. He received these awards: Scout of the Year of the Lincoln Heritage Council and Eagle Scout Award of the Freemasons. He is also a member of the SCHS Trap Club. Alex will be attending the University of Louisville Speed School in the fall to study chemical engineering.

Learn about the Student of the Week nominees:

Daphne Powell, J. Graham Brown School: Daphne is faced with a rare blood disease yet is one of the only divers on our school swim/dive team. She is also a dual credit student taking college classes at Jefferson Community and Technical College and getting a jump start on her post-secondary plans.

Abigail Derege, Fern Creek High School: Abigail is a graduating senior who will be a valedictorian, and she was resilient throughout the year despite experiencing hardship at the beginning of her senior year. She still applied to all the schools that she wanted and was admitted to her dream school, Emory. While at FCHS she has been in countless groups, even started a future medical professionals club, and volunteers in the community.

Victoria Moorman, North Harrison High School: Vicki is going to Manchester University on a full-ride Honors Scholarship. She plans to major in English with a concentration in professional and creative writing. She will also play soccer at Manchester. Vicki has been an active member of student council, BPA, swim team and soccer at North Harrison.

Jasmine Winston, Southern High School: Jasmine has been a long-standing member of Justice Now. Her contributions to the cohort have been inspiring. She is productive and a creator and a great student, but an even better person.
