Investigators say they learned that two groups had exchanged gunfire on a sports field behind the school as part of an ongoing feud between local gangs.

Law enforcement said at least seven shots were fired on and near the field where a large group of children were playing baseball. No one on the scene was injured.

Officers believe this group is potentially involved in two other shots-fired incidents in the borough from January.

Authorities filed charges against two juveniles, whose names are being withheld, for their alleged involvement in the shooting. The release states the investigation is ongoing and police expect to file additional charges in the future.

The West Hazleton Borough Police Department asks anyone who witnessed the incident to contact their police department at 570-455-3733.
