Sheriff: Illinois woman missing for more than a week, possibly armed

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ill. – The Washington County, Illinois, Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with finding a woman who went missing more than one week ago.

Authorities say Brittany Moeser, 36, was last seen on April 13 when she left her home to take her dog for a walk.

Family members say Moeser is possibly armed, prompting responders to exercise caution in their initial search efforts.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, in a news release Wednesday, added that Moeser’s disappearance is concerning because of her medical conditions, stating that it’s also unusual for her to not maintain contact with family members.

The sheriff’s office says there have been extensive search operations to find Moeser in St. Clair, Randolph and Washington counties in Illinois.

“For the family’s sake and for Brittany, we want to find her,” Washington County Sheriff Ross Schultze said.

“There’s been a lot of effort,” Matt Bierman, Washington County Emergency Management Agency director said. “We’ve searched probably close to 500 acres, and we’ve not been able to locate anything.”

On Wednesday, county residents were hopeful Moeser’s family would soon have answers.

“Having something like that happen so close to home like that, that’s just scary,” said Washington County resident Julie Renth.

She says she’s much more aware of her surroundings and is ready to report any clues that could help.

“I’ll keep my eyes peeled and I hope she’s found sooner rather than later,” Renth said.

The sheriff’s office describes Moeser as 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 130 pounds with light red hair. If you have any information on her whereabouts, contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 618-327-8274.
