Severe storms possible across Middle TN through the week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A multi-day severe weather event is underway across parts of the United States with Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky on the northern end of the risk areas. Many could see some strong storms on Wednesday and Thursday. More than anything, the primary concerns for all of the region will be heavy rain and gusty winds.

The big picture for the South on Wednesday is a significant threat, a level 4/5 Moderate risk in parts of Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. In Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, the focus is on Wednesday into early Thursday morning for a risk of stronger storms. All of the Middle Tennessee area is under a level 1/5 Marginal Risk, with a Slight Risk level 2/5 for all of Hardin, Wayne, Giles, Lawrence, Lewis and Lincoln counties. The Slight Risk clips southern Decatur, Maury, Marshall and Perry counties.

Wednesday: The first round of rain and storms arrives overnight into the morning ride. We should get a break in the rain around midday which will allow temps to warm into the 70s. Then, another round of storms rolls in for the afternoon and evening. These storms could be strong to severe.

Wednesday late night into Thursday: The final round of rain and storms return. Areas along and east of I-65 are under a level 1/5 Marginal Risk of severe storms.

FORECAST: Middle Tennessee & Southern Kentucky Weather

Wednesday night into Thursday morning: As storms continue across the Deep South, that could take away from the strength of our storm risk. However, a few storms will occur into Thursday morning. Colder air moves on during the day Thursday, transitioning to patchy showers and a northwest wind.

Wednesday and Thursday: The primary severe threat is gusty winds. Heavy rain at times is possible in some storms. The tornado and hail threat is low, but not zero.
