Several rounds of thunderstorms for the late week into the weekend

What We’re Tracking

  • Mostly cloudy tonight

  • Numerous rain/storm chances ahead

  • Unsettled weather for the weekend

Things get more active by the end of the week with a stronger southerly wind and increasing cloud cover by Thursday. A few showers may even start to move in by later tonigh with some thunderstorms likely by Thursday morning. The storms Thursday morning aren’t expected to be severe, but they may still be on the stronger side with heavy rain and maybe some small hail.

This round of rain is thanks to the first of two upper level systems that will be moving in for the last half of this week. There may be some strong or severe storms later on Thursday in our far western counties, but the better chance to see that kind of activity will be in Western Kansas and down into Oklahoma and Texas. Still, some damaging wind gusts may be possible later Thursday evening.

We’ll have another chance for storms Friday afternoon and evening as the upper level system continues to move eastward. This chance for storms may be dependent on early morning activity. As it stands right now, the best chance to see storms redevelop in the afternoon will be in the eastern half of our area and into western Missouri.

By the end of the week our temperatures will eventually make it into the upper 70s and lower 80s. Additional rounds of storms are also possible for Saturday and Sunday afternoon/evening hours. There are some indications that the strongest storms may occur on Saturday, but with numerous rounds of rain ahead of that, several factors may change before then.
