86-year-old Sarasota woman injured in car crash late last week has died, the FHP reported

An 86-year-old woman whose car was struck as it left a driveway on Swift Road in Sarasota has died, the Florida Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.

The accident was one of two fatal accidents troopers are after serious crashes in Manatee and Sarasota counties late last week.

In the Swift Road accident, a 39-year-old man's vehicle collided with a car driven by an 86-year-old woman near a Sarasota assisted living facility at 10 a.m. Friday. The Sarasota woman was traveling west from the driveway access of Brookdale Philippi Creek at 5501 Swift Road when the FHP said she turned left in front of an oncoming car.

The woman initially sustained critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital, but died on Monday, the FHP reported Tuesday. The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries, according to the FHP.
