San Diego FC signs two European players

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Football Club (FC) has announced the signing of two players from Denmark.

San Diego FC has signed forward Marcus Ingvartsen and defensive midfielder Jeppe Tverskov, both from Danish Superliga and Right to Dream member Club FC Nordsjaelland.

Ingvartsen signed a three-year contract through 2027 with a Club option through 2029, while Tverskov signed a two-year contract through 2026, according to the announcement.

Ingvartsen and Tverskov will join San Diego native Duran Ferree as the second and third players to join the club since it was announced as the next expansion team for Major League Soccer (MLS) last year.

“I’ve been part of the Right to Dream playing style and part of the philosophy of this group from a very young age, developing through the years as a person and as a player,” said Marcus Ingvartsen. “Being able to bring some of those ideas and way of playing to San Diego FC is something that I look forward to. I look very much forward to being part of a completely new club and I have the confidence in joining because of the organization and people involved in it. Being able to create history from day one in this amazing city is something that will be magical.”

Ingvartsen, 28, began his career at FC Nordsjaelland, scoring 30 goals in 74 appearances for the Danish club.

Ingvartsen led the Danish Superliga in scoring during the 2016-17 season before transferring to Belgium Pro League club Genk and later to German Bundesliga clubs Union Berlin and Mainz 05. He rejoined FC Nordsjaelland in 2023.

Ingvartsen is a 6’1”, 172 pound Forward, from Farum, Denmark.

“First of all, I’m very excited to join San Diego FC,” said Jeppe Tverskov. “The possibility of starting a new team is very rare and to be one of the first players joining the Club is exciting. From what I can see there is already a great fan base and we hope to compete at a good level from the start. It’s going to be very unique and exciting.”

Tverskov, 31, has spent his entire playing career in Denmark. He made his Superliga debut in 2014 with Randers FC, signing with Odense Boldklub in 2016. He transferred to FC Nordsjaelland in 2023, appearing in 14 UEFA Europa League matches.

Tverskov is a 6’1”, 183 lb Midfielder, from Copenhagen, Denmark.

“Marcus [Ingvartsen] and Jeppe [Tverskov] will provide experience and a key understanding to the Right to Dream style of play and culture that we will look to build from here at San Diego FC,” said Tom Penn, CEO, San Diego FC. “They have both played over 250 professional games across a number of leagues and competitions and will be bringing their diverse leadership to the team as we prepare for our inaugural season.”

The signing of these two players comes as San Diego FC gears up for its inaugural MLS season in 2025. To get fans excited for the season, the team has also unveiled its team crest, broke ground on a new training facility and launched official club merchandise.
