Riverside Drive closes for downtown festivals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A section of Riverside Drive will closed for nearly a month due to upcoming events in Downtown Memphis.

At 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, Riverside Drive between Georgia Avenue and Union Avenue will be closed entirely for the new RiverBeat Music Festival and SmokeSlam Barbecue Festival. It will reopen at 5 a.m. on May 24.

Friday afternoon, barricades were already being placed near Beale Street.

The City of Memphis says drivers who typically use these sections of Riverside Drive should seek alternate routes during the closure, as delays are to be expected.

Detour routes will be posted.

For northbound traffic, routes will divert drivers through Carolina Avenue, Third Street, and Jefferson Avenue. Southbound drivers can use Jefferson Avenue, Second Street, and Carolina Avenue.
